Wilderness Eco Safaris decided to go against the trend of the "mass tourist market" in North Queensland and take visitors into less visited areas of the Wet Tropics rainforest. These tours have now been recognised as innovative and original - the owners Steve and Lynette taking out a number of awards.

The tour takes you on a real 4WD tour into "restricted access areas "  ...only in this area of the Highlands can be seen the true "Land of the Giants", a truly ancient rainforest unmatched by any other in Australia and the world.

Experience North Queensland from a different perspective with this eco sensitive 4WD safari.

Taking you away from the mass marketed areas to one of the north's last wilderness frontiers, where there are no "Touristy Crowds", no other vehicles and no sealed roads, just pristine " World Heritage Rainforest ".

This area is little known and promoted, it offers a non-commercial look at our World Heritage Rainforest & the Australian Bush in our 4 WHEEL DRIVE customized vehicle - fully fitted just for this tour.

No set schedules or timetables, we make our pace at your leisure.

Day Tour Description

From Cairns, we begin our day as we ascend the Hinterland Mountain region and into the first of our World Heritage National Parks at 2400 feet above sea-level (800M). Here we enjoy morning tea in the tranquility of the rainforest on the edge of an Volcanic Crater Lake. We also have a chance of a morning swim in the crystal waters, and a nature walk to spot wildlife such as the Jurassic aged Eastern Water Dragons, Bearded Dragons and Saw Shell Snapper Turtles.

Our morning continues off-road as we enter the "Land of the Giants" rainforest trees. Only in this area can be seen the true ancient living giants. One with a height of 53 Meters (160 feet) and a circumference of 43 Meters (130 feet) this massive natural structure is spectacular. Here we also learn of other rainforest species and the local "bush -tucker" with your experienced Naturalist Guide, while keeping an eye out for reptiles and Musky Rat Kangaroos which frequent this area.

How much does the day tour cost ?

You can join the tour as an individual or you may charter the 4WD as a group. It is a full days outing commencing and terminating in Cairns.

What is provided on the safari ?

We leave at about 8.00 am from Cairns (Northern Beaches are a little earlier) and arrive back about 5.30 pm. In between bird watching and wildlife spotting in true rainforest, you are provided with a luncheon, plus morning and afternoon teas .. it is indeed a wonderful day out from Cairns, a fully escorted safari, naturalist guides and reliable 4WD vehicles.
